ACAP's Track Record
Textbook development was neither a new nor a speculative venture in 1993 for ACAPress. Books developed had offered sponsors an opportunity to acquire substantial profits and enhance their image as organizations interested in providing the health-science community with quality chiropractic literature. A summary list that portrays our track record as of 1/11/93 is shown below. It reveals what had been accomplished (with no marketing effort by ACA headquarters staff) and casts a shadow on the ACA's decision to cease the publication of R. C. Schafer's books. Keep in mind that the below data do not reflect earnings from post-1993 reprintings, whose data have been withheld from author, nor do they reflect potential earnings from books that could have been developed 1993--2000. Summary is shown at the bottom. --John F. Kirby, MSc.
NOTE: (from RCS) You will note that the largest income came from the Williams and Wilkins sales, since they took on aggressively advertized those books, while the ACA did minimal advertizing for Dr. Schafer's books. This eventually forced a wedge between them. Both W&W books were first offered to the ACA (who refused them) before they went on to earn W&W almost 1.25 million in income. It's a shame that ACA didn't capture this income for the benefit of our profession!

Note: Although the ACA will enjoy a gross profit of $1.35 million when current supply (1993) is exhausted, Williams & Wilkins has approached this figure with the sale of only two books, through an aggressive direct-mail marketing. The current ACA Board of Governors may not be aware that the two ACAP books published by W&W ($1-million+ profit) were first offered to (and refused by) the ACA. |
