Patients with Cancer. Is There a Role for Chiropractic?
J Can Chiropr Assoc. 2020 (Apr); 64 (1): 32-42 ~ FULL TEXT
Chiropractors treat patients who have cancer, seeking care
mainly for neuro-musculoskeletal complaints. Advertising
is not considered viable due to potential for adverse
interpretation.
Further research is necessary regarding initially how
chiropractic could gather data about the relative safety
and risks of chiropractic care in such patients. Chiropractors
need to establish better inter-professional relationships
with the patients medical and rehabilitation team.
It is important to send a clear message that chiropractors
do not cure cancer but only aim to help with the neuro-
musculoskeletal signs and symptoms. Therefore, construction
and publication of consensus-based guidelines
of best practice should be considered a priority.

Chiropractic Management of a Patient With Breast Cancer
Metastases to the Brain and Spine: A Case Report
J Can Chiropr Assoc 2015 (Sep); 59 (3): 269278 ~ FULL TEXT
Cancers of the breast, kidney, lungs, prostate and thyroid metastasize to the musculoskeletal system in the majority of patients with malignancy. This report chronicles the case of a 65-year-old female with a known history of breast cancer who presented to a chiropractic clinic. Once metastasis was ruled out as the cause of her complaint, the patient was treated with manual therapies and exercises. As the patient's treatments progressed and her pain improved, she presented with a new complaint of 'pressure' in her head. Advanced imaging revealed metastasis to the brain and subsequently to the spine. The aim of this case is to heighten awareness of the presentation of metastasis to the brain and the spine in a chiropractic patient, and to demonstrate the benefit of chiropractic care in the management of such patients.

A Systematic Review of the Literature
Integrative Cancer Therapies 2012 (Dec); 11 (4): 304312 ~ FULL TEXT
Cancer is the leading cause of death worldwide and accounted for 7.4 million deaths in 2004. By 2030, deaths from cancer have been estimated at 12 million with 30% being preventable. Complementary and alternative medicine remains popular among cancer patients; particularly with chiropractic services. However, the nature of the chiropractic clinical encounter and its reported benefits remains to be fully investigated. Towards these efforts, we begin with a systematic review of the literature on the chiropractic care of patients with cancer.

Chronic Pain in Persons With Neuromuscular Disease
Clin J Pain 2005 (Jan); 21 (1): 1826

The Use of Complementary and Alternative Medical Providers
by Insured Cancer Patients in Washington State
Cancer 2004 (Apr 1); 100 (7): 15221530
Musculoskeletal pain was the most common diagnosis at the CAM provider visit. Billed amounts for alternative services were <2% of the overall medical bills for cancer patients. A substantial number of insured cancer patients will use alternative providers if they are given the choice. The cost of this treatment is modest compared with conventional care charges. For individuals with cancer, CAM providers do not appear to be replacing conventional providers but instead are integrated into overall care.
